About Us
Hello, we are Brown Bird Campervan Hire which was set up by Laura & Jacqui from Brown Bird and Company. They run a succesfull campervan conversion business, as their business grew they decided to hand over the reins of their campervan hire business which I Lisa am delighted to own. I own two campervans by Brown Bird, a Medium Wheel Base Sprinter called Blencathra and a Long Wheel Base Sprinter called Catbells. These campers have been handcrafted based on their years of full time van living. They use their experience of living in campervans to create beautiful and highly functional luxury campervans that hirers can go off and have some fabulous adventures in.
They know how important it is that you maximise the use of space with plenty of easy to use storage and equipment, whilst maintaining a space that feels open and easy to move around in without squeezing past each other or making up beds everyday. Blencathra has been built using their signature Scafell build design and Catbells has been built on their Nevis signature design.
I now fully run Brown Bird and Company Campervan Hire I am based just north of Manchester. This location is perfect for exploring the Yorkshire Dales, the Lake District, North Wales and Snowdonia and is in the perfect spot to collect en route to explore beautiful Scotland.

As a retired woman who spent nearly three decades in social housing, I've always found travel an escape and a means to balance my life. With my late husband we travelled extensively and once single I decided to follow through on our dream and buy the campervan we always dreamt of and some divine intervention helped me find Brown Bird and Co. I am lucky to say I was there first customer buying Blencathra and my family, friends and I have had lots of adventures with her. In retirement I also found I had lots of time to fill and grandchildren to mind so decided to allow others to share the chance to have adventures with Blencathra and I love meeting people and even more so hearing what an amazing time they have had when they return.

Laura is the mountain and climbing obsessed geek behind Brown Bird & Co. She enjoys the challenges of building campervans and creating beautiful functional homes on wheels. Known as the ‘grafter’ of the company, she does a variety of different jobs including ceiling installations, carpentry and furniture making, insulation, carpeting and fitting exterior upgrades along with the important background work like the business accounts and is also the main customer facing person of the team responding to enquiries and preparing quotes.
Laura loves the freedom vanlife offers and loves to be in the mountains as much as possible when herself and Jacqui get any spare time! Planning adventures is definitely Laura’s favourite pastime and is a great believer in making the most of every spare moment
Jacqui - Director of Brown Bird and Company
Jacqui is the adventure seeking designer and founder behind Brown Bird & Co.
She oversees the daily operations and strategic vision of the company. She's hands on with all aspects of the build process, including design and innovation, as well as managing our online social media profiles and building our websites.
She is a great believer that amazing design can be achieved in small spaces. With a 32 year background in design and product development, she loves the creative and problem solving challenges that building campervans presents.
Our Travel Knowledge
As we have all explored the UK and Europe extensively on our own van travels we are also able to offer lots of advice to hirers to plan their own adventures. This includes park up information and wild camping, campsite recommendations, which roads to use and which to avoid in a big vehicle and of course the best places to go and explore. We have also written extensive area guides which include exclusive park up information specifically for our hirers.
