Catbells is the newest edition to be offered for hire and is a long wheel base Mercedes Sprinter offering a cosy luxury cabin vibe.

The colour scheme of black, green and warm oak tones make Catbells an amazing space for cosy adventures.

The extra length of a long wheel base vehicle has allowed for a fixed double bed, a spacious shower with toilet and a beautiful wood burning stove.  The seating area comfortably seats 3 with the option of transforming the same to a chaise long or creating an additional third bed.  She even has all season tyres to keep you safe if exploring more remote regions. 

A truma combi heater provides an additional heating option and heats hot water for the shower and kitchen sink. She is also fully off-grid with 300 watts of solar and a battery to battery charger which means the leisure battery charges whilst driving and when the sun is out.

Similarly to Blencathra top quality dining accessories are provided with lots of storage space and a large garage area.  A removable lagun table can be stored away or used to host those essential board games or a romantic meal.

Located 5 minutes from the M60/M66, Catbells is perfectly located to explore the Peak District, Wales, Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District- you could actually visit Catbells in Catbells! She is also a popular van to hire en-route to beautiful Scotland.

There is a space for you to leave your car when picking up Catbells or if you prefer to come by train or plane then the nearest train station (Radcliffe) is 5 minutes away and Manchester airport is 30 minutes away. We offer collection from both to help our hirers.

If you would like to pick up earlier or drop off later then we can accommodate this at £12.50 per hour extra if you would like this option.

You will be given a handover tour upon collection where you will be shown how to use the campervan. We will also provide instructional videos and a manual for your reference.

Location

We are located on the outskirts of Manchester, 5 minutes off the M60/M66 and 5 minutes from Radcliffe metrolink train station. Exact location will be given once a booking has been made.

Daily Mileage Allowance 

Included in every hire is a generous 200 miles per day mileage allowance which accrues for the duration of the trip e.g. if you do 300 miles on 1 day and 100 miles on another you we will be ok. Mileage exceeding 200 miles per day will be chargeable at 20p per mile. 

Deposit

Our standard deposit is £500. Occasionally it needs to be slightly higher if you do not meet the standard hirer criteria. 

Insurance Excess

Our standard insurance excess is £1000 for which you will be responsible for in the event of an accident or damage. This may be higher in certain circumstances but we will confirm if that is ever the case. The excess is only payable if there is any damage. 

Payment Terms

20% of the booking amount secures your booking

Balance of the booking due 30 days before your booking starts

Security Deposit is due 3 days before your booking

Payments can be taken online on this website or directly by bank transfer

Driver Hire Criteria & Eligibility 

Our self drive hire insurance covers drivers which meet the following criteria: 

Age: 23yrs-75yrs

Driving licence type - Full UK or EU licenses (other licenses will likely be accepted but we will need to refer them to the insurers first. This may result in a higher excess) 

Length Held: Minimum 2 years

Driving offences: No more than 6 points and up to 2 minor offences 

Claims: No more than 1 claim in the past 5 years 

All named drivers must be present to collect the campervan so they can sign the hirer agreement. 

If you do not meet the above terms please contact us before making a booking and we may be able to refer you to the insurers to get you covered.

Catbells began life as a commercial panel van before she was bought to convert. She was well looked after and serviced with low mileage.

She was converted according to Brown Bird's signature Nevis design which has been amazingly popular since being launched in early 2023. Their brief to themselves was to create a hidden shower which didn't impact the living space of the van hugely. They achieved this by putting the shower across the van and using designs on the walls to take the walls back into the space. They often get asked where the shower is as it's so discreet.

Catbells still features the beautiful live edge work tops, copper features such as handmade copper lights and copper and oak shelves which have been in all Brown Bird's builds.

They know how important it is that we maximise the use of space with plenty of easy to use storage and equipment, whilst maintaining a space that feels open and easy to move around in without squeezing past each other or making up beds everyday.

They designed Catbells to be a beautiful and easy to use campervan to ensure you have a wonderful time with her, wherever you decide to explore
